Turma!#3

The Zina of the queer vegan community.

În centrul volumului veți găsi secțiunea dedicată solidarității cu locuitorix Palestinei, o luptă căreia ne-am alăturat în contextul genocidului desfășurat de israel.

For this anthology, I created the cover illustration & designed, and handled the typesetting. I also contributed three poems and additional illustrations that appear throughout the book.

I also worked on a social media design campaign, which included a call for artists and writers, as well as the graphics for the zine’s publication and its launch at various locations across Romania.

The cover illustration reflects the concepts of solidarity and community, for which I drew several non-human animals living together. I tried to capture an ecosystem as complex as possible, depicting various species that are most often commodified in the capitalist society in which we live, as well as some that are considered pests, as in the case of synanthropic animals such as mice, hedgehogs, and pigeons, which are often targeted for eradication in Western “civilized” cities and societies. I also wanted to convey a sense of liberation and solidarity with the people of Palestine, and to that end I included an olive tree and a frame with pattern of keffiyeh. Another dimension is the anti-ableist one, represented by the black cat’s prosthetic leg—a nod to the diversity of bodies that exist and deserve to be understood and appreciated for what they are.

The back cover, follows the previous design and features a queer antispeciesist quote and several Palestinian symbols, such as the poppy and the olive. The moth remains a symbol of resistance and defiance against the status quo.

Here you can see a selection of pages from the anthology, to illustrate the typesetting, as well as some of the additional illustrations I’ve included. The illustrations were originally created for the video essay ”Escape, Resistance and Solidarity - Farmed Animal Sanctuaries as the Heart of the Movement", just wondering...

A series of posts for CVQ’s Facebook and Instagram pages, for which I provided graphic design to promote the anthology online. For these, I used different approaches; for example, for the call for contributors, I drew elements from the non-human world in Photoshop, and for the subsequent posts related to the launch, I used elements taken from the book’s design to create a cohesive look. I also used the colors associated with the activist group.
