Often constructed with rhyme or rhythm, the poems examine the world through a queer-feminist and anti-speciesist lens. They frequently begin with an intimate setting\u2014life lived alongside beloved plants and trees\u2014 with subsequent references to a global context marked by the current climate crisis, the struggle for social justice, the housing crisis, and the recognition of privileges belonging to a particular species, class, or gender\u2014attempting to highlight and dismantle them to make way for a less anthropocentric and far more inclusive perspective.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tfractalia.ro\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\tpisica-neagra.ro\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\"fotografie-carte-cea\n\t

Maria\u2019s book revolves around key concepts such as luck, gratitude, secular prayer, and intimate life within a multispecies family. Thus, the illustrations in the book feature portraits of the non-human family members, their presence, and the setting in which they find themselves\u2014from the outdoor setting with the bountiful garden to the indoor setting that reflects the gathering, the small community, and the stories that often begin during a family dinner.<\/p>\n

Pentru coperta din fa\u021b\u0103 am pornit de la o scen\u0103, poate, recognoscibil\u0103 – ridicarea puilor \u00een lumin\u0103 aduce aminte de momentul din Lion King, \u00eens\u0103 \u00een mod dulce-amar, aproape ironic: aici, puii nu sunt venera\u021bi, nu mo\u0219tenesc un regat, din contr\u0103, ei sunt sco\u0219i din fa\u021ba pericolului, din umbra mor\u021bii. Lumina care \u00eei \u00eenconjoar\u0103 nu e soarele, ci farurile ma\u0219inii, denot\u00e2nd astfel un cadru urban, un spa\u021biu \u00een care umanul \u0219i non-umanul trebuie s\u0103 \u00eenve\u021be s\u0103 convie\u021buiasc\u0103. Coperta este construit\u0103 printr-un joc de imagini, al\u0103tur\u00e2nd cadrului anterior un fundal pe care s\u0103 se contopeasc\u0103 – de la distan\u021b\u0103, \u00eens\u0103, vedem c\u0103 fundalul e un portret.\u00a0 E o reprezentare care marcheaz\u0103 trecerea timpului, \u00een culori calde de var\u0103, ale celor doi c\u0103\u021bei, protagoni\u0219ti ai c\u0103r\u021bii – Aki \u0219i Nuna.<\/p>\n

Pentru ilustra\u021biile fiec\u0103rei sec\u021biuni, am selectat \u00eempreun\u0103 imaginea care ar da seama at\u00e2t de anotimp, c\u00e2t \u0219i de \u201epersonajele” principale din ele. Aproape fiecare ilustra\u021bie e bazat\u0103 pe o fotografie f\u0103cut\u0103 de una dintre noi. Astfel, volumul este \u00eemp\u0103r\u021bit prin ilustra\u021bie, sec\u021biunile neav\u00e2nd titluri. Aceast\u0103 alegere permite p\u0103r\u021bii vizuale s\u0103 converseze cu textul, devenind o parte esen\u021bial\u0103 din structura volumului.<\/p>\n\t

A Lucky Night, Spring-Summer, Winter<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\"intro-ilustratie-luna-portocala\"\n\t\t\t\t\"gradina-ilustratie-capitolul-1\"\n\t\t\t\t\"masa-recunostinta-capitolul-3\"\n\t

The book is divided into chapters that explore the effects of the four seasons on the local context in which they were written. Beginning with the introductory poem, which reimagines the concept of luck and what it means, I visually depicted the feeling of a magical night, with a moon that unfurls into slices of orange, based on the excerpt: \u201cWas there ever a night\u2014a lucky night\u2014that unfolded perfectly, like an orange, with every slice intact, right before your eyes?<\/i>” (p.13).<\/p>\n

As the lyrics delve deeper, they depict a wide range of emotions that come with each new season; waves of happiness and gratitude are always intertwined with a surge of anger or anxiety toward capitalist society and its daily injustices and oppressions.<\/p>\n

For the first chapter<\/strong> of spring and summer, I depicted a small section of a garden\u2014a moment of abundance and joy, with rays of sunlight caressing and nourishing the fruit-bearing plants, those waiting to be picked, to share the sweetness of their ripeness.<\/p>\n

The final illustration depicts several poems from the winter chapter and features a dark color palette. It portrays a dinner scene that blends light and darkness\u2014a gathering where many daily conflicts come to the surface, a contrast between those who are alive and those who are dead, between those who tell stories and those who end up on a plate.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\"fotografie-noaptea\n\t\t\t\t\"fotografie-primavara-vara\"\n\t

Chapter II<\/strong> – reflexia toamnei \u0219i a cadrului domestic, e ilustrat\u0103 prin portretele celor trei membrii non-umani ai familiei, pornind de sus \u00een jos, Nuna, Aki \u0219i Aria. Via\u021ba intim\u0103, familial\u0103, plictiseala zilelor cu ultimele raze c\u0103lduroase ale soarelui, aduce o profunzime \u00een cunoa\u0219terea celorlalte care tr\u0103iesc l\u00e2ng\u0103 tine. O bog\u0103\u021bie de arome, gust\u0103ri, atingeri \u0219i tr\u0103iri, o bog\u0103\u021bie ce a\u0219teapt\u0103 s\u0103 fie culeas\u0103 \u0219i \u00een\u021beleas\u0103, pentru cine are privirea \u00eendreptat\u0103 spre o nou\u0103 lume posibil\u0103.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\"fotografie-nuna\n\t

Ragna on the left and Murmur on the right\u2014two portraits of the little ones who joined the family later on\u2014can be found in the section with the Appendix<\/strong> and Author's<\/strong> note and Acknowledgments<\/p>\n

Both fluffy and black, Ragna, always curious and playful, and Murmur, who loves to explore the neighborhood, Ragna, who traveled far and found a wonderful family, and Murmur, who is joining a family that\u2019s already come together.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\"\"\n\t

Mu\u0219hi<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\"Mushi\"\n\t

I\u2019m drawing you for the third time<\/p>\n

I\u2019m trying<\/p>\n

You\u2019re so wild, not even the lines want to resemble you<\/p>\n

You're so free that I can't even contain you between the brushes<\/p>\n

Something about you escapes me<\/p>\n

I know you<\/p>\n

And yet I can\u2019t contain you<\/p>\n

I tell myself<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s because of your black fur<\/p>\n

It absorbs all the light around<\/p>\n

Your body swallows all the contrast<\/p>\n

And only your belly is still visible<\/p>\n

I think it\u2019s the only part of you<\/p>\n

The fourth, the fifth, the sixth<\/p>\n

I sketch and something keeps getting lost<\/p>\n

Tiny and vulnerable<\/p>\n

You\u2019re stubborn and fierce<\/p>\n

As I sit with you and wish you\u2019d listen to me<\/p>\n

I keep thinking how no one can<\/p>\n

Dominate you<\/p>\n

Tame you<\/p>\n

Soften you<\/p>\n

I keep thinking of you<\/p>\n

And hope I can capture you better<\/p>\n\t

You can find Mu\u0219hi at chapter IV<\/b>, a section dedicated to her, but also to the new year and the creatures you might encounter during the last chilly months of winter. Mu\u0219hi was the hardest to draw, from her boundless curiosity to her healing gaze (like a chamomile flower), to her strong and restless body. A portrait based on one of the first photos taken when she arrived at her new home. Alongside it, a short poem I wrote while trying to capture her as authentically as possible.<\/p>\n

Written by Maria, Mu\u0219hi has a poem dedicated to her on p. 123. (This is a rough translation, made by me, just to give a feel of the poem)<\/p>\n

„Am g\u0103sit-o pe Mu\u0219hi \u00een parcare la Lidl,<\/i><\/p>\n

In the first night<\/i><\/p>\n

she stood motionless in the old vacuum cleaner box,<\/i><\/p>\n

the second day, she already felt at home, and she got a<\/i><\/p>\n

toy from the puppies' basket and started munching on<\/i><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve saved the four reviews (which appear on the back cover) for last\u2014they were written by these wonderful authors, who\u2019ve managed to capture the essence of the book, and I hope they\u2019ll make you want to read it.<\/p>\n
